I wasn't explicitly talking about you, but reading your comments makes me understand your POV.
What you express is your idea of neglect and abuse that you've gained from your childhood and the people around you, however raising a kid is different among every culture. My parents were never there for me and my siblings because they were complete workaholics so I raised my siblings instead, as you'd suspect I didn't have a whole lot of experience and I failed.. a lot, but I constantly asked the people around me how they raised their kids, and that helped but the advice were more like methods instead of the answers I was looking for, I realized slowly that they took over certain personality aspects I had and that how I acted around them influenced them, knowing that made me change my parenting style, eventually realizing that I was glad I cared for them the best I could until they were old enough to care for themselves, instead of the parents that I honestly never see.
I wasn't the best example of a human being, no shit. And their honestly isn't 'the best parenting style' or good parents but kids are mainly influenced by their environment and family, and kids naturally feel what their parents think about them, when a parent are terrifying their kid you know they aren't a good parent no matter how much money they give their kid, because money won't fix your personality when you're older.
I can't claim to know much about parents but I know what family is, and what marika has with her mother isn't family.

The story feels relatively straightforward enough that a twist that her mother has been good all this time and Takae has been misinterpreting things seems unlikely.
At best I can see the story revealing that her thoughts aren't so malicious or cold, it's just that the fallout of her marraige really messed her up that much, but her actions are nonetheless neglectful and are not fit for having a child.

After reading her parents' brief backstory, I can't bring myself to hate her mom. It just feels like she's always pissed off and can't think of any other way to let it out than to talk shit to Takae.

"Close to actually hitting each other" read as "the mother would hit the father and, at times, the father would almost hit back".
"Almost lose interest in me as her daughter" and why do you care? You are a stupid ass adult, it doesn't matter one bit if these people that, from your own point of view, are terrible people like you or not. Just live your life calmly until you are of an age you can get out of there and do it. It is not like you have nowhere else to go.

Holy shit, people are actually defending parental neglect and child abuse.
Bear in mind, it's not just being so inattentive you don't know even if your child has eaten or where she's been. It's also the piles of trash littering the house, the emotional neglect, and being abusively controlling when it suits. If any of that is familiar to you, you experienced child abuse.
@mahtan she only recently regained her memories, so she likely experienced that believing to only be their daughter. It seems like she experiences a duality, being both an adult but also a vulnerable child in need of parental love. As a child abuse victim myself, I can say it took me until I was about 22 to finally cut myself off emotionally. Also, being a child in body and law makes her almost just as unsafe as also being a child in the mind. She cannot emancipate herself, and state intervention would rob her of the freedoms she has. What you describe as "living your life calmly" is what victims of child abuse tend to try to do, but they still get horribly traumatised.

Hold me i'm scared of both what's happening in-story and in the comments.
The entire "her mom just worried about her and didn't want her to lie" part is pretty much contradicted when it is revealed the mom doesn't talk to her, doesn't make sure her 10 year old daughter is eating properly, and apparently is going to leave her 10 year old daughter alone for an entire weekend.
You can't have it both ways....either the mom is worried about her daughter and is trying to keep tabs on her, or she just lets her daughter fend for herself....you can't have both.

The daughter is fine, but the husband is too fucked. He never seems to think far enough about his former wife's condition. She genuinely needs to stop meeting with him. She isn't the same person she used to be, but he doesn't seem to understand that.
