If My Wife Became an Elementary School Student - Vol. 3 Ch. 18

Really, since your mom was there with them, I don't think you should be upset.

Something about the Kouhai is off. She's too perfect, y'know? Like the author set her up specifically to be the romantic antagonist. She's exactly like the husband in every way and is making the wife clearly have some sort of feeling towards her attempt at a relationship. It feels like the author put her there just to make it seem like the dad would be better off leaving, contemplate it but then he'll refuse because he still loves his wife.

@varler That might be the daughter's issue in and of itself. It seems like the guy is dating a girl right in front of the mom. And while obviously it's not a bad thing to be dating, the fact that he's doing it in front of his previous wife is kinda scummy

Not surprised she's upset, but I thought the series was going to take a darker turn with the shitty guy she had dinner with, so maybe this'll be a different twist

@ImperiumZero
it certainly isn't REQUIRED to move on, but a lot of people feel like without someone to form new memories with, it's easy to get trapped in the past. which, it sounds like, is exactly what happened with dad.

@Hitspark
If you're looking for something 'off' about kouhai, you could go for the age difference, I guess? He's about 15-20 years older than her, if i understand right.

The whole point is she's (as far as we know) a genuinely nice person who genuinely likes dad.

@nobaka I don't mean off as in "Wrong" I mean off as in "Tonally." Something about her perfection and the unsurprising chemistry between the dad and her seemed off. Not that she's evil or anything, but that there's a lot of drama flags being thrown in there that the story is tiptoeing around.

It might be because I've seen authors do this before, but it feels like the writer is setting this up as a moment to be used during a later emotional conflict (like the wife trying to cut the husband off only for the husband to reject it or something for the husband to mull over etc). One he may already be initiating with the daughter, and the wife too considering that not too long ago she was set on trying to get her husband to move on but now seems to want their old life back more than ever. Even the way she addresses the situation in her thoughts seems to make the whole series look like it's about to go through some rocky soil. If you watch her face and read her lines, there are hints of reluctance in her thoughts about the situation.

For example: "I let my guard down." Why is she on guard at all? What was she expecting? She even examines the kouhai's kitchen skills and says she'd go for it if she were a man and before that she's just silently watching her in the kitchen before switching her thoughts to her daughter. It all smells like a set up using the kouhai as the center of the turmoil.

@Hitspark The part about letting her guard down was because she suddenly spoke like her adult self, and the OL reacted to that in the next panel, then she corrected herself and spoke again as her child persona.

I'm in favor of dad getting remarried but first he need closure which he failed to do for 10 years after the wife's death.
I think they will have fun, make some more happy memories that they failed to do in her previous life but she will also help him move on from her in addition to also helping her daughter in moving on and sorting out her own life then leave them aka disappear to live her own (second) life. We the readers and the family including her will cry out eyes out but we will understand that this was the right step to take.
I would like that type of outcome, it's a bitter sweet ending. The perfect kind for this type of manga.

Oh no, it was the daughter that had an issue with the new girl and not the "mom".

Oh man~ the daugther also has a sharp sense!
like mother like daughter they say
Hohoho

I'm thinking a lonely end would be sorta fitting for this. The guy can't move on from his wife, and it's not like the co-worker can just slide in that easily because key part is the MC himself. He clearly does not love the co-worker and has no reason to.
