Jikkyou!! Izumi-kun no Koi Moyou - Vol. 2 Ch. 12 - Izumi's Do-or-Die Moment

On one hand, he definitely is a coward for pulling himself back and protecting his ego by saying he never stood a chance or that he just wasn't right so why even bother.

On the other, it's good that he can start trying to define himself to his own merits than being a hangers-on to someone else.

This is a good turn of events . On one hand the mc can finally move on and start getting some better development as a character and on the other hand it leaves things open ended with the heroine since its not confirmed yet that its really love.

@superdoofus Coward? are you kidding me that's called a strategic retreat, also a real man knows when to give up when the battle is an unwinnable one like that one.
I'm glad the author ended like that so now he can add a new actual heroine to the story( to be honest i never really liked Shinohara, it was like she was leading him on)

@AthalosJ Strategic retreat only exist if you don't gave up the war, but right here he did. At this point, he had nothing to loose, so he could've confessed.

@istvan90623 you have to try and think into the mc shoes . He was at the bottom of the pyramid and only was friend with the girl for a month at most . Plus he was afraid of not being able to talk to her anymore when he would have eventually got rejected . What else could he to but pretend he could be of help to her ?

@AthalosJ I get what you mean. It's just kinda odd that he oddhandedly pushed the couple in such a way that she was actually convinced by what he said. Granted, she must have had the inkling of it the whole time if it could have escalated this much, but Izumi definitely conceded far too much for himself.

I wonder if the poor guy will ever actually hit it off with somebody.

Ouch. Poor soul. We can't have a confession this early, of course, but it still hurts.

That probably still hurt a lot but it still felt like he dodged a bullet, though long term if he doesn't get over it or confess later he's going to regret it.

People , people
whatever you feel . We are on team izumi

No matters what happens. Our goal never changes in hoping he has a happy ending.

This is but a small pitfall in the road to love. They will truly be someone for our izumi.

As such we support , we encourage, we cheer on our boy . So that he may never turn back again

All who agree say "Here,here"

I get why some people get so invested in Izumi (I also am) but some are really quick to demonize Shinohara.
She found some lonely kid, became her friend and helped him out of his shell. I get that this is tipical shoujo protagonist but it seems this manga is going for something more real. Just because someone is close and friendly to you doesn't mean there is romance there. Not every intereaction is about that.
Sometimes people hurt you but that doesn't mean it's anybody's fault. The thing is most manga readers (Or manga comenters I have read) have a protagonist centered morality.

But speaking of the chapter.
Man, having the girl you like asking for romantic advice. I've been there, it's not a fun moment.
But I'm really proud of Izumi being a good guy, its not easy.

@Ansgar Helping him out of his shell is one thing. Misleading him another, and Shinohara did that at points, which is entirely her fault.

@Istvan90623 All she was to him was a nice friend. She never intended to mislead him. Shinohara is just friendlier than most of his classmates. Izumi's just been looking at her actions through rose tinted glasses.

The boy needs friends before he gets a girlfriend

Edit: Also wtf is a breeding committee?

Misleading needs to be Conscious in order for it to be something worth condemning.

Except some of her actions can be construed as more than just friends so she is misleading him. I don't know, I wouldn't mind if he would through the heartbreak and then still gets with her even if towards the end. If this is just going to be "He doesn't get the girl, the end" then I'm tapping out.
