He stole a corpse of a monster from Hiiro before; as far as I know, those are monster corpses, so they don't need to breathe. You can see that they're all damaged and appear to have suffered from some decay. It appears that his "darkness" trick also allows him to do necromancy, maybe? Or someone else did the necromancy and he simply is using his darkness to store them and bring them out.
