I’d have totally freaked out at the part “they won’t eat you as long as these two OP girls are around”, because that pretty much means that if something were to happen to them there is a whole tribe of overgrown monkeys that WILL eat you (and that would be the best case scenario I suppose). Plus all the other animals that, I bet, will also try to eat you.

I think it's really funny that this setting seems to be prehistoric, but to me it's more like postapocalyptic one.

That cave wall reminds me of the handprint-filled wall in that Egyptian cave, "Cave of Beasts", from around 7000 years ago when Sahara was still humid and lush and the site was a place for an adjacent lake. It always seemed to me like an ancient promise of return once water comes back;
