wonder why he chose rats? Cheap, smart, fast, small and agile maybe. Doubt they could take on many lizard men and they probably don't have that flesh strip kinda power you see in horror flicks.

Btw, Haku is an absolutely awful character.
She really is mostly there so that the MC has a powerful benefactor, but the story would be far better if she didn't exist.
