I generally agree with your points, but you're missing that he'd already talked with the geeks. He already knows what can be reasonably expected from this group and should be much more reluctunt to stay around or give them any information about himself.

Like other commenters mentioned, the only reason he just blurts everything out and that doesn't backfire horrible is that this is a stupid comedy manga.
