People don’t realize that two competitors who are always trying to one-up each other actually is much more realistic for them to fall for each other eventually compared to star-crossed lovers. I guarantee if either Naruto/Sasuke or Goku/Vegeta were of the opposite genders, no other female heroine would even have a chance since they only see each other in their eyes.

Have you seen the anime or manga Special A? Because that's pretty much exactly what happened. The two have competed for so long, they only see each other. Hell, at the end they even compete on who will propose first, lol.

@Scrabbleman Yeah it's as obvious as it could be but I'm in denial because the author can't possibly be this bad at writing. The romantic development is so linear and forced.

Lockman literally has the romantic behavior of a 3rd grader. It's not that his feelings are in development, he has liked her from pretty much the beginning and ends up being abusive because he doesn't know how to show his true feelings. The dude surprise attacks her and then when she retaliates it's a problem because it's "dangerous" and then she agrees. He provokes her because he likes her, that's the only way he knows how to interact. That's literally an abusive relationship.

I went into this without reading the tags but it had potential to be a nice SOL action/adventure or maybe something similar to the devil is a part timer. Those are generic ideas but this is too generic!

As ActiveInternetSandwich I'd like too to see the protagonist shine. The idea that the gap between her and other people (as well as the ml) is widening is somewhat annoying since she is hardworking and talented.
I had the same feeling of this "widening gap" with her knight friends too.

I don't see the "abuse" either. All I see are two people that are highly competitive against one another. And from what I see, Alves clearly treats her as his equal and with respect. That one time during the dance when she was a little down, he even gave her words of encouragement as well as a headbutt (lol) as a way to get her spirits up and back to how she usually is. In this chapter, the fact that she's on his "list of trusted people" tells you he trusts her which makes sense considering how she never holds back just because he's the son of the Duke which means she's someone that will speak what's on her mind and those types of people can be trusted and should be treasured.

@Scrabbleman Actually, I think Lockmann at least knows he's in love with her, but because of what he's put her through and the fact that he thinks she hates him(which she kinda does to an extent) likely prevents him from wanting to confess to her. He probably thinks he'll get rejected in a very painful manner and she might think less of him even more. Of course I'm just guessing so it could very well be that he is just as dense as she is.

@Svelandria She notes his attitude toward her changed. He definitely pulled back on the "tough love" route because he realized that wasn't winning him anything but animosity. He screwed up the romantic atmosphere with the dance, though. Almost had a thing going there. Combine that with apparently everyone else passing her despite having OP artifacts, and her inferiority complex hit full force and cemented the negative feelings she had towards him.

Though, he is also still flirting with women constantly, so maybe he is just an idiot.

EDIT: No, he definitely knows. Pretty obvious he was sending those notes, but his popularity with women backfired in the moment. It also seems like he wanted her to go for a more prestigious job; maybe hoping that she could earn a noble title. Oddly enough, this manga is going the route where the social issues related to nobility are there, but the people of importance don't care. For example, the dad is supportive of the idea of his son getting romantic with a commoner.
