@lazybum well, it's. I read the LN and I can guarantee you that the story is sub-par at most, there is a lot of common/cliche troupe so brace yourself to not get cringed until your face get cramped. I read it because my reading list have slow update.

I want to like this but the constant stream of contrived cliches, for no real reason, destroy any enjoyment I could get from it. We get that not having magic is "bad" but does there NEED to be a situation every chapter that opens the door for some random person to crap all over the MC? Its not going to make it all the more satisfying later because it doesn't need to be happening now. Probably going to pass on this one cause I don't see it getting better.

It looks like he's using a Type 99 Arisaka. It has aircraft sights, so you can properly lead a plane and adjust for high altitude. It's a late WW2 rifle of the Japanese empire. He's probably also worried about using too much ammo, so he's probably hesitant to spray and pray like he did those goblins.

Ok, now that I've calmed down, I can accept the fact that it's a good AA rifle, and he probably thought it's all he would need since he prepared it before they were ambushed. I can also accept that I don't know how long it takes him to switch guns. What I can't accept is the possibility (it's not confirmed) that he was using it to save ammo. When people are dying, you worry about things like cost and collateral damage later. And an LMG (possibly with tripod mount) and tracer rounds would also be good at AA.
