It would just be like this manga to make us feel bad for a character, begin to see them in a better light, and then immediately say "nah your initial impression was correct," so I still have my doubts about this guy. Do I want him to turn out to be a good guy? Sure. But do I trust this manga to make him one?
At this point I don't recall if we actually saw him killing any cats -- so if it'll be made that the blackish ghost cats are not that way because of his treatment of them, but because they were already tormented -- that'd be quite the load of crap.
Either way, I can't see this character redeeming itself. I can only imagine that the only interesting bit to come out of this, is a better understanding of how ghosts work.

Actually I felt that the man can be saved. It would be soooo good to see him survive, fix his internal problems while being in hospital (therapy with Miko) and become "good" man.
Yeah, you can't bring back all those dead cats, but there are lots of living cats who need help and support. I think, he can redeem himself
