he's clearly not weak. He was never made out to be, either. He's just not a frontline powerhouse, that's all. He's a scout and light fighter, so he's got good combat abilities, but his ability to do heavy damage is limited.
Karan, on the other hand, is not only a bazooka, but can also breathe fire as a rare and powerful race.

the whole point is that they're all strong in their own field, but you can't survive without people to cover you
