Salaryman ga Isekai ni Ittara Shitennou ni Natta Hanashi - Vol. 2 Ch. 19

It's the ol' "Ugly Guy With A Heart Of Gold Switcheroo" - coming to a Hallmark TV channel near you.

@MonsieurQuack Except it wasn't. He was endangering the lives in the villages protected by the stones. He had other goods, including a monopoly on orange powder, and was clearly wealthy, yet he chose to be a criminal out of pure greed.

It is absolutely crazy that Uchimura lets him sell the Rosemarin because he needs a "merchant he can trust" when Butagallian has proven himself beyond any doubt not to be trustworthy.

@Spooky_Spoopy0-0 I don`t think he is aiming towards good.
The fact that he is stealing something that affects villagers ability to feed is proof of that.
But I think that the difference of opinion resides mainly in that I met this "chaotic good" as you call them IRL and not a fairly tail from manga

Huh. This is nice. Not the usual "black and white" thing, but gray area with a temporary antagonist having a more humane side.

i think this is in part a calculated move from Uchimura, in part a desperation for money/resource. by keeping Butagalian alive for now, he can sell more rosemarine, the further he can travel, the higher the profit.

This is some bullshit story telling. You just gonna pull the "he's not a bad, he's a good guy" plot armor and not kill the piggy when you clearly haven't set it up in the beginning of the arc that piggy was a good person. He's not stealing it to feed some orphanage kids since they've all grown up to be... ASSASSINS. Hmm yes, poor teenage assassins, they're going to starve to death because papa piggy died.. NOT.

Such a lazy story telling, blehhhhh.

@XL
All stories should have no black or white character, even if the reader doesn't actually know it beforehand.
I'm not saying this is good story telling, I'm saying it's better than black or white storytelling.

If the children stuff was done better with foreshadowing then it'd have been great but it was not... The sudden switch from making your character look like rapey ntr fat old pig man to this is bizzare.

Tbh, though I like this manga, I feel like the sudden plot twist that he was an ok guy was not pulled off well. He was built up too much to be a terrible person. The author should have gotten rid of that backstory stuff and just make him rethink himself after the mc saves his ass at least.

he put a lot of villages at risk by stealing those crystals...maybe just being a trader that helped a war torn country was enough, but he's also a loving orphanage dad? Idk, it was a nice moment

"A Calamity is imminent".

Coming from a trader, is he possibly talking about an economic recession? IRL, it does happens every 10 years or so. Lol

Why should the reader care about the fact that he takes care of an orphanage when he stole the crystals from a village that would have caused the death of many villagers?
