I don't think that guy on the last picture clearly understands the concept of armor... Let's put armor everywhere but the place where all the vital organs are ! Yeah ! *facepalm*
@Ohgodpleaseno
are you talking about the conversation with his dad or the fact that he's going to "assassinate" Dia?
for the later i think he's doing this to make it seems like Dia really dead.
probably tho
Maybe i read it wrong but it seemed like her own father took out the hit on himself and his daughter to quickly end their little war with minimal civilian casualties...
Your right. He knew he was going to lose, so he needed to order a hit on himself and his daughter. Since his daughter is naturally attuned to magic, the nobles would rape her till she produced an heir or two.
Its a father's attempt to spare his child. But since he made the hit to that little corner of assassins, that hit turned into a 'plea for help'. The dad already knows he's dead, but if the daughter's death can be faked and her life start over, that'll be enough for him.
I only read the webnovel for volume 1 but i guess the light novel or the manga had a slightly different way of revealing to him the request to assassinate Dia.
@Ohgodpleaseno : Basically
Dia's family was on the side of royal family that lost, and so paid a lot in reparation to the winning side.
But then the winning nobles pushed for more, specifically for Dia herself in order to get children with strong magic power in their blood line.
Initially Dia's family was going to accept, but the retainers didn't and basically 'revolt' to protect Dia and her father, with the civilians joining in once they know of the situation.
But knowing that the nobles will crush his retainers and citizens if they clash, Dia's father order their own assassination to break the people's morale.
tl;dr The knights refused to let their lady be sacrificed to the greedy nobles, civilians agreed, and Dia's dad decide the only way to stop them is heroic sacrifice.
