For what I've read on the topic, the fact that he saw his mom getting abused is statisticaly quite standard for an abuser. Not a waste of page, like you state @kronix, just character build up that nobody should take as an excuse for what he did either.

No, it's a generic waste of space. It's a ridiculously predictable backstory that doesn't change anything. Everyone knew this jackass was going to get some pathetic sob story to humanize him. And this was the most low effort and predictable way to do it. There was ZERO effort in making him a decent character or villain. Just generic bad guy things with a generic bad guy backstory. 'Authentic' and 'Character Building' were thrown out the moment this manga started. This isn't context, it's an excuse. It's a pathetic grab for empathy. It's a fucking joke.

@nanze giving an asshole character a backstory is nothing wrong. I enjoy all the Hitler childhood documentaries and i don't feel it was for redemption.

Yautja has been complaining about the same shit in every chapter since the beginning and he still continues to the end. The author must have done something right to have him hooked despite how much he hated every bit of it. It's like he was in an abusive relationship, but still keeps coming back... sounds a bit like some of these female characters. Maybe he actually relates?

@nanze The reason why he(and probably you and a lot of other people) are so mad is because they're experiencing cognitive dissonance. The guy is a rapist asshole, so you want him to be an inexcusable, unforgivable monster in all other aspects too. And now he's getting a backstory with - gasp - some sort of reason why he turned out that way. You don't want that. You want him to have been a monster from the beginning, from the moment he was born, and probably a bully in school, incompetent at his job(that he only got because of his dad's connections, I bet!!!111) and preferably ugly(well that ship has already sailed, too bad for you)

This has nothing to do with "predictable plot", it's just an excuse Yautja is using to try and give his - otherwise entirely emotional and therefore baseless - argument some sort of merit.
