Ooh so even shadows have ranks.

My guess: "second floor" have their shadow-sama and faces merged and switch at will. That's why the faces are talking about promotions and being careful of debuts even if those are things only shadows worry about.

I can already see this as a future conflict since Kate and Emylko want to exist as two different persons.
