She ceded her rights of succession and ran away from her kingdom. If Ai-chan isn't mistaken, it had something to do with succession disputes and she didn't want to be a part of it. So while she's still a princess, she has already washed her hands off the affairs of her kingdom. The higher ups in her kingdom also wanted her gone because she was too much of a wildcard, being a respected hero and such while having her own mind. So they were probably quite happy that she exiled herself.
