Regarding the prince if he intentionally abandoned MC in their previous life:

Turns out he was set up by his noble family''s head retainer/butler. The butler felt the MC's social status was inappropriate for the new head's nobility, so he tricked prince into believing MC had married someone else and moved away. Prince later discovers the trick and sets off to find MC, but butler had already scattered or moved away all people and connections who knew MC's whereabouts.

Prince later passes away while unmarried, passing his house title to another relative.

Later it's revealed the butler reincarnated as a noble in this present time. Butler schemes to break up prince and MC again due to social status difference, using his saint candidate daughter to get in their way.

Wasn't there a fairly tale about a king that gave his bride candidates a bunch of boiled dead seeds and asked them to raise them. He gave the same B.S. about them being magic and the plant that grows will reflect upon the person who grew it. Every one went out and bought exotic and beautiful flowers when they couldn't grow the seed to show except one lady who brought a pot of soil and said she tried everything she could and couldn't grow a thing. It was a test of honesty and she won.
