winning a lady`s heart does take time and effort

Not for fleshed out stories or complicated plots, just for fun fluff to make you feel happy.

Ummm, what part of White Mage was supposed to be scary? She was painfully shy for half of the first chapter, then an easily embarrassed beauty ever after

If you read the first page, from Chapter One, you will see that the expression that is reflected from White Mage~san face
with her eyebrows turning downwards as soon as she removes her hood, people will arrive at the conclusion that she is scary although she is.................. as you stated in your own comment, and i quote " She was painfully shy for half of the first chapter"
this happen because, if you read further, she has been deemed by people who, she has met before the story started, to be scary because of her face
And they also mock her, by saying that she appeared more as a mage that uses Black Magic
So imagine, after being mocked and rejected continuously when she wishes to join a party,
Low Self Esteem will play it`s part
Thankfully, all of that is in the past, where she is now changing, for the better, i am glad for her

On the one hand, it's decently stupidly cute in a brain-dead sort of way. On the other hand, the initial basis of their relationship is that she has rock-bottom self-esteem and finds his ogling pleasing simply because... he likes her at all in any way? A bit unfortunate, that.
"Awkward boys, the girl of your dreams is a girl with low self-esteem!" (who over-appreciates every morsel of appreciation you give her, even if somewhat inappropriate!) is not really the implicit messaging I want in my manga. XD
On the other other hand, it gets over that stage of bad relationship messaging pretty quickly and mostly just turns into "Stupid Happy Dumb Couple Being Silly", which is a lot more palatable. Though the blatant male wish-fulfillment aspect, alas, seems to rear its ugly head periodically regardless. To some extent that's obviously just the sort of series this is; it's a borderline semi-ecchi semi-fluffy shounen romance, at least in spirit, and all that that implies.
