In both timelines, she had a strong sense of virtue, but this time Mia might be able to be more open minded regarding alternative possibilities.

You're definitely right about that. I guess maybe my dissatisfaction stems from the different amount of effort the two have needed to go through. I guess we'll soon find out if Rafina can turn around on a dime, or if she has to overcome any kind of challenge to learn and grow. ( Mia technically didn't even call her out on it, she just misinterpreted )

Maybe we'll see her convictions put to the test in the future? Either way, I'm definitely looking forward to more.

EVERYONE in this is terrible somehow, especially Mia, though her specific terribleness is sloth, gluttony, and active incompetence.....the main difference between then and now is both fear for her life and that she managed to establish a better reputation to start with allowing people to misinterpret her in good ways rather then the reverse. And even then mostly just barely. If she didn't have her reputation as 'the wisdom of the empire' Rafina wouldn't have considered her spacing out over tomatoes as referring to their current situation and instead would have thought she was trying deflect the conversation away from punishing them or something.
