The teacher continues to be the best character here. I wonder if the original husband was more like him, if any of this would have happened in the first place.

You mean the least worst character.
He's still an annoying psycho trying to kill people out of jealousy and treating mc more like a property than a person.
He could have also talked about the dark haired asshole to the police, maybe not enough to get arrested but definitely get investigated by them but he preferred to shut up to keep his reputation clean.
