I understand her motivations. They were bad choices, but not without meaning. If he was 5 when she was 22, she must've given birth at 17... That's immediately shouldering the weight of motherhood even when she herself could still be considered a child in the grand scheme of things. That's too much to expect out of her. I'm guessing no one even taught her how to be a mother, assuming she'd just adopt the role, too

This premise is honestly just dull. She was too young to understand, wanted to have fun with her friends instead of staying cooped up 24/7 with a husband whom seemingly didn't give two shits except for his position and next heir, a child she didn't know how to take care of and WAY faster then normal just shut down, taking after his father and just straight up hating the mother. It is truly odd that the only way she could see her friends was to go to social gatherings like that were predominately for single people. Why did she not invite people over?

Honestly, that kind of person might have had a miserable life, but that does not warrant a reincarnation for a "bad" character.

I can understand her feeling, she was 22 when her son was 5, so i guess she gave birth when she was 17? I know it was a norm back in older time, but 22 is still too young to be a mother. I'm 28 and i still find it too soon to have a child.

@chet31 agreed. The premise relies too heavily on restrictive gender roles re: parenting, & romanticized misogyny. Her rise to “villainy” is too dependent on estimating a woman’s worth by her usefulness to men. It makes the Time Travel Redemption aim of the novel intrinsically faulty.

There’s going to be a load of thermian arguments reminding “that’s just how it was back then”, “it makes sense for the setting”, as if this is historical fiction with a true to life setting. Along w a bunch contradicting that by saying gendered social injustice in fiction is unrelated to those irl.

But like... featuring unjust practices & prejudices in a work without showing their negative impact is just normalizing them. & no media exists in a vacuum, without influencing/being influenced by modern society (at time of publication/release). Esp not cross-culture media.
