Exactly, it's like he forgot about the forest of monsters training... which is strange since he recalled the snake from that forest a chapter or two ago.
Shame that it ended in simple pulling out the dagger. I seriously expected him diving inside dragons body using the big wound and trying to find that heart while ripping his insides.

At least ancient hero shapes up to be a nice character that got so mindbroken from his hero role that he even made sure that his "good deeds" would turn into a catastrophe for humans after he's gone.
