@Captaininvictus your evaluation of Makoto is kinda off basis. Makoto isn't genocidal, and he doesn't "Have no problem killing people". You are discounting everything that has happened before he killed someone, and the people that he -did- kill. Makoto is rational and pragmatic, and not really held back by empathy, but he is by no means 'genocidal' . He just knows the humans of this world are absolute trash. And he still is effected by killing people, it's getting less and less, but it's not something he has 'no problem' doing. He's like a soldier in that respect.

This series isn't about them. Having them appear is fine but devoting ENTIRE CHAPTERS to poorly defined, and intentionally unlikable, characters is just....not a very good idea. ESPECIALLY with how infrequently the series comes out.

To explain Tomoki: He was written as a villain for a reason.
To explain Hibiki: She's written with a lot of internal dialogue in order for context later on.

To describe the story itself, and the misconception of "main story" vs. "side-plots", is that Japanese literature is infamous for focusing on details. Much more than we typically do in the West.
This story is a good example of that. It's basically progressing the story with a lot of interconnected points, where each point is explained and developed, in order to provide proper context to the actions all these interconnected points ends up taking.

There's also an underlying focus on the minds of the characters throughout the story itself. It's not just stuff "happening", it's also a bunch of writing dedicated solely to explain to the reader what made the characters do things as well, and how their surroundings reacts. Lots of different point-of-views are included in this story.

With that said, I hate this part of the story. It's probably my least favorite part of the entire WN. The pace gets better later on, and the focus will stay on Makoto for the vast majority of the story after this part.

This entire arc can be summed up as, oh no, tomoki is pathetic and a piece of shit and boo hoo I have trauma over losing a friend.

given people are talking about the heros general thoughts on monsters, ill assume that happened this chapter, in the wn, it was conversations between 2 ideologies, heroes and makoto's, where this took place.

there are three things I want to see, and I think we got the hint of the first one a few chapters ago, the second should happen next after this not makoto bullshit, and he third will happen during the investigation of what happened. beyond those three things, i'm fairly indifferent to the manga at this point. most of the parts I really liked are over, and the other parts that I want to see and will be fun to watch are chapter 100+

looks like manga Hibiki is still just as naive as the WN version. This isn't as interesting to read as the Makoto's part, and god I hope it isnt stretch out for several issues considering this a monthly manga, but this whole arc is very important and its impact is felt at many points in the story soon and later. Even the dialogue between the characters becomes relevant not just events, as many characters personalities and goals shift after this arc. Everyone do try to hold on but if you cant, the last half of the ch is around ch 70 of the WN.

I'm actually fine if we continue seeing Hibiki, the other hero can go die for all I care.

Although Hibiki is being naive in thinking that the discrimination will disappear on its own with time, it isn't weird for her to have that train of thought. Unless she creates her own country or dimension like Makoto, she really can't do much in that world since the Goddess is set on rejecting anything not human. She might have comrades with her, but how many people are really against that discrimination? At most, you find people who are indifferent. She might be able to put the first seed, but I would find it hard for her to change that world in her lifetime and on her own.
