Im sorry i don't understand the culture dynamic nor the law here. Why was the trial withdrawn? What does it have to do with the relationship between the mother and her previous husband?

@ikkychann2125 all this was basically a test set up by the Empress to see whether or not Shuli was worthy/strong enough to protect the Necuhaksdlflkas household.

Since Shuli was able to convince the Reicher matriarch to join her (via her appearance at the trial), the Empress knew Shuli was capable and called the trial off. If Shuli failed, it just meant that the family would fall into the hands of someone else.
