Her internal narrative makes it seem that way, but she has a consistent pattern. In real life, some people pursue objectives that they don't acknowledge to themselves. We often spot that in cases of things such as weakness or cruelty, but it can also be the case for attractive characteristics. At this stage, it would be a great stretch for the writer to intend her merely to be accidentally kind.
