If the google captcha is turned on intentionally, please ignore.

If not then, cloudflare or whomever has turned on Captchas now, how odd.

I had the same captcha just now. I be like... "am i infected?" Just ran a AV and malware check just in case (non found), but it seemed odd to me how i suddenly got that one too while in the middle of reading a manga chapter.

It's bad enough that the service is still riddled with 502 / 503 errors, and that images for a chapter do not always all load, instead showing big black blank pages, now we've gotta deal with this captcha crap randomly appearing out of nowhere? What next???

@FredFriendly 502's/503's should be nonexistent and images shouldn't be failing, if it happens you're either on the wrong image server, your internet connection can't handle what you're loading, or we're getting DDoS'd. The captcha only gets turned when the site is being DDoS'd as a preventative measure and will get turned off after the DDoS is over.

@Manga2rain no, you're not infected.

I got one too and im currently using an iPhone to read manga on MD, not even using a PC.

Most likely as far as i know, the captcha is to check your connection whether you are a bot or not. I bet because the attack recently happen captcha is used to check all the suspicious connection and ensure that it is safe.

So, just do your captcha and you are good to go. Restart your connection and stop using VPN instead using google DNS is good too, just sayin'😚

@Plykiya Thanks for the reply. I remember the good old days when mangadex was a new and promising manga reader site where I could read my long strip webtoons without interuptions, no cloudflair, no captcha and without missing or broken images. Sigh. I guess burdens come right along with popularity.

The captcha is only used when the attacker is able to bypass measures on the site, and also CF's attack mode.

@ FredFriendly
Same. Captchas aren't so bad (depending on the situtation!!!), it's google's recaptcha that's a pain in the ass and also because google.

Because it doesn't detect bots, it detects people without cookies from google's sites. I've *never* had the captcha detect me as a human.

You have to click a bunch of slow-loading tiles and once you select all the correct ones, it tells you to try again. You'll only need to pass two tests if you're extremely lucky. So along with the fact that it takes at least 30 seconds to complete the captcha, it also sends all your mouse movements and a bunch of other data to google so they can uniquely identify you and collect information about you (hobbies, etc).

so i am attacker?
i do get to fill captcha once in a while ( like once a month?)
there also the issue where i cant use quicksearch without logging in -this one is constant

I don't have any problems with having to use a Captcha but in the last hour, I've been redirected 5 times now in the middle of chapters to prove I'm not a robot... It's getting really, really frustrating to say the least. Is the volume of these redirections really necessary or is it just something about my connection that's making this site hate me?
