They don't even need testimonies, they literally witnessed the duke threaten and coerce his populace. Why even bother listening at that point? Just take him down.
And as usual, the truth office is useless until the MC and his group come to clean things up. Should just disband their organization already, they do more harm than good.

This is why checks and balances should exist (in theory, anyways). The fact that they're not even allowed to verify each other is extremely suspicious to say the least. I would probably go as far as saying that the creation of the truth office was to exploit their rules to a T, and allow corrupt nobles and others to take advantage of such.
And as usual, the truth office is useless until the MC and his group come to clean things up. Should just disband their organization already, they do more harm than good.

What a dumb plot. If they can literally see the truth and lies, then they don't need testimony. Also as I said last chapter with as little security as there was going into the noble's house, what was keeping the townspeople from going some place else and telling a different truth officer what was going on. If you can trust any truth officers then there is no point to the truth palace in the first place.

@icekatze the children are given 2 choices. Become a tool who only does what its told aka a "lie detector" or find their own path of justice. If they choose to live as tools they are warranted an easy life since they will be protected and will have a safe job forever. If they decide to find their own path of justice like Tilika and the master they will find many, many problems so its their choice what they become.

And they are held accountable of their actions, if a truth officer ever lies his/her eye is removed and his/her title is stripped. They have a rule not to use their eyes against each other unless one part is on trial. This chapter they mentioned that a truth officer was demoted and if Tilika coup had failed she would have literally got beheaded.

@degenerateafro @broadsword80 The part about requiring testimonies isn't a mechanical need; it's pure politics. It's a roundabout way of saying, "We have the social backing and/or military power to kick your shit in seven ways to saturday if you try to cover this up."
On the flip side, it is a convenient loophole for people attempting to hide the truth. If the author stops dicking around long enough to write a quick backstory, we could get a nice chapter or two showing how such a ridiculous state of affairs came to be.

Wasn't that already shown in the previous chapter? It was only a few pages, but it explained that in the old days the Truth Palace had far more powers to investigate nobles. And because this is a feudal setting in which nobles have their own armies, they revolted and killed all Truth Officers. The king rebuilt the Truth Palace, but with new rules that prevented overreach, such as forgiving minor offenses and the need for testimonies before conducting an official investigation.

@Misticsan I might be over-reacting a little, but I was hoping for more than that - which is where "chapter or two" comes in. A quick page-&-a-half blurb of "Yeah, they killed almost all my predecessors and beat them into submission" is rather lazy. If future chapters have this TO/noble tension as a consistent background theme I'm willing to let it slide, but I'm sick of authors introducing a rather serious plot point only to completely forget it after the heroes have retrieved the McMuffin, defeated the evil store manager, saved McDonalds, and fucked off to never return.
The same problem happens a lot whenever "beastkin", "elves", "demihumans", "nobles" or "religion" is introduced. Author wants to race-bait / class-bait / religion-bait the audience for more money, implements a flat-earth-idiot version of "racism / social status / religion is bad mmmmkay", uses it as a cheap trick to prove how morally superior the MC is (despite suffering no noteworthy consequences for bucking a long-established societal trend), then completely abandons it
