Who would've thought that a lame-sounding nickname would turn into a respectful epithet?

Reminds me of Izuku Midoriya from My Hero Academia, whose hero name "Deku" was originally a derisive nickname by Bakugou, but which Ochako Uraraka reinterpreted as a shortening of dekiru, meaning "(I) can do (it)".
 
The training arc was short in the manga which only amount to 1 chapter,

I have to say that this may be the one time a slave choker made me smile instead of cringe. It feels like it would be a perfect use for them, especially for someone like me who lacks drive. I'm not lazy, exactly. But I have to have some kind of goal to work towards to even want to do something, lol.
