@TetsuyaLP I added "more" to realistic because in the original work the author is quite clumsy with his attemps to add depth to his templaty "MC get the full isekai package (OPness, slaves, harem, etc..)" webnovel (and not just because women want stronk ducks not whiney cats).

It's not that well done but at least he tried to make his MC react in a more realistic way instead of just stopping at being a self inserting looser that became suddenly for no reason a paper thin perfect alpha hero persona with a bundle of weird powers and obsession for japanese food.
It's way more common in occidental works, but it's something that a lot of asian authors doesn't want to even start to think about...

So just for this I'll give him at least a bonus point for effort.
 
@tetsuyalp being afraid of dying and developing trauma about a near death experience doesn't make someone a pussy it makes them human.

Mentality like yours is why traumatized men are afraid of seeking therapy and susceptible groups like veterans have sky high suicide rates.

You think Masaru is now a champ? Well, you see, this happens a lot. He will almost lose, then in the middle of crisis swears he will do better, to do everything he can to save his wives. Sounds good so far?

After the crisis is over, he will totally forget his vows and decide to live a slow life as a lazy dude. It would be fine if this happens only once or twice, but it happens every single time. Vows are automatically forgotten after every crisis, over and over. His harem will grow, but he himself never grows up from his 'slow life' mentality.

Technically, he's not a beta MC, he's just a very lazy and forgetful one.
 
@tetsuyalp can't wait for you to be drafted into the army and sent off to the front lines. Provided you don't kick the bucket, I wonder how would your tune change
 
@aichan and @miiabestwaifu thats not completely true, I agree that Masaru didnt became an alpha in one episode, that would actually be boring and unrealistic.

Its also true that he prefers not to die or feel pain, he is a human who grew in a peaceful country and never experienced violence after all. But the rest is a lie.

Vol 2
he resumes trainning after this event but focuses more on range attacks and fast casting because thats what he feels lacked more on the harpy raid

Vol 4
The next crisis he experience is with the orc king and after that he gets into a bone breaking trainning. Literally bone breaking abusing his fast cast healing.

Vol 5
The next crisis is at the elf country after which he practice earth magic and wall building since he saw the difference between fighting behind a wall against in an open field. He even develops 2 original spells which didnt existed before

Vol 9
Then next 'crisis' is with the sword saint trial and he jumps into an special trainning just for him negating all the god protection to make it harder for him.

Yes he gets into all that trainning almost unwillingly because they are painful as fuck and yes he still prefers to avoid near death situation because thats normal.
